Klarna comes to a desktop near you 🖥; BNPL picking up steam in Africa🇪🇬; In search for a global crypto policy 📚
Good Morning FinTech, December 13
Good day Everyone,
And happy Monday! I hope you managed to take some time off during the weekend. To start the new week on a positive note, I invite you to explore 3 super interesting FinTech stories I’ve prepared for you today. Let’s dive straight into them:
Klarna comes to a desktop near you 🖥
The launch 🚀 FinTech giant Klarna has just launched a browser extension that enables buy now, pay later (BNPL) for online shoppers even if Klarna isn’t partnered with the merchant you’re trying to buy from. Think of it like Zilch.
The tool is compatible with Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and soon Firefox and Safari. In essence, every major browser there is.
The details 👉 Here’s how it works: the extension lets shoppers generate one-time Visa cards when they shop online that can enter as a regular card during checkout.
It can automatically apply discounts - through its recent acquisition of discount provider Piggy - and lets shoppers earn rewards like cash back or gift cards, depending on their location. Shoppers can also save items and activate price-drop notifications.
Again, this looks very similar to Zilch apart from the fact that one-time virtual cards are used (Zilch is built on a virtual standalone Mastercard).
