The BIG News 🔥 Yesterday wasn’t about a blockchain launch. Tempo mainnet going live is the sideshow. The real (& the biggest) move is this: $159 billion FinTech giant Stripe now owns the payment protocol that AI agents will use to pay each other, and it’s already an IETF draft.
The Machine Payments Protocol, co-authored by Stripe and Tempo engineers, repurposes the 30-year-old HTTP 402 “Payment Required” status code into a full authentication scheme for autonomous machine-to-machine payments.
→ An agent hits a paid API endpoint
→ Gets a 402 challenge
→ Fulfills it with a crypto deposit or fiat token, and
→ Receives a cryptographic receipt.
No accounts, no API keys, no human in the loop 🤖
